London Stock Exchange welcomes GIIC India Forum

Launched at COP21 Paris, the Green Infrastructure Investment Coalition (GIIC) recognises the urgent need to address climate change and is dedicated to overcoming green infrastructure investment barriers.

GIIC’s core mission is to bridge the climate finance gap, linking high level emission reduction pledges and national climate plans with project pipelines and market participants.

Organised by the Climate Bonds Initiative, UNEP Inquiry, Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurers Federation (ICMIF) and the Long Term Infrastructure Investors Association, the coalition has gathered more than 30 members, representing over USD 65tr AUM.

This India forum marks the inaugural GIIC event dedicated to these goals and will cover the policy measures being implemented and the green investment opportunities available.

Today, we welcome 15 Indian companies and project developers looking to access new sources of funding and, institutional investors keen to increase their exposure to green opportunities in emerging economies.

The GIIC India Forum will be an opportunity for investors to gain crucial early visibility of future green deal-flow and to provide feedback on the structuring of financing instruments.

Today, Sean Kidney, CEO of Climate Bonds Initiative said:

“After Paris, the focus of institutional investors must shift towards financial implementation; translating INDC’s into specific national investment plans. The GIIC initiative is part of this challenge, with the India Forum giving leading investors the direct exposure they need to consider long term green investment opportunities in one of the world’s fastest growing economies”
