London Stock Exchange welcomes Ireland Day London 2015

Ireland INC today opened the market as it hosted its third annual Ireland Day at London Stock Exchange. Ian Hyland, President of Ireland INC, was joined at the market opening by political and business leaders including British Ambassador to Ireland Dominic Chilcott, Irish Ambassador to Britain Dan Mulhall and other senior executives from Britain and Ireland.  Ireland INC is a private sector platform that aims to advance economic development between Ireland and its closest trading partners to strengthen business connections and to create real influence for Irish businesses.

The theme of Ireland Day 2015 is ‘Ireland INC 2020: The Next Steps’ and discussions will focus on increasing economic ties between Ireland and the UK, increasing finance to SMEs and the importance of Britain's membership of the European Union.

Speaking ahead of the market opening, President of Ireland INC Ian Hyland said that the annual Ireland Day is vital in terms of progressing the unique economic relationship between Britain and Ireland. "Today's summit builds on the outstanding achievements following the queen's visit to Ireland and the visit of President Higgins to Britain. The presence of both nations' ambassadors at this morning's market opening also marks the sheer a strength of ties between the two countries in trading and cultural terms.".

Ireland has a special economic relationship with the UK, which accounts for 40% of the exports of Irish-owned companies and is the source of 40% of all visitors into Ireland. The economic link between us is illustrated by the fact that there are some 55,000 Irish directors of British companies and that Dublin-London is the second busiest international air route in the world. Two-way trade between Ireland and the UK amounts to more than €1 billion each week.
