The 8am event was led by SUMMIT co-founder, Michael Hayman who opened the day’s trading alongside guests including Elizabeth Truss MP; co-founder of Dunnhumby, Edwina Dunn; founder of Decoded, Kathryn Parsons and Sherry Coutu amongst others.

These guests were present for the launch of SUMMIT: The Future of Growth ahead of the official event which will take place on Friday 16 May convening 300 founder representatives, many of whom are at the helm of Britain’s fastest growing firms. The purpose is to collaborate on ideas to supercharge growth, address key barriers facing high-potential firms and map areas where Britain can lead.

SUMMIT: The Future of Growth takes place in partnership with Bloomberg TV at its European headquarters, and is supported by official sponsors RBS, NatWest, Coutts, London Stock Exchange and WANdisco.

It will mark the launch of Growth Britannia, a new report that charts big ideas for growth and distils the opinions of 100 leading business figures. Contributors to the report include Jim O’Neill, former chief economist at Goldman Sachs, Evernote founder and CEO Phil Libin, Lord Young, Charles Armstrong and Luke Johnson.

SUMMIT: The Future of Growth will also provide a platform for young coders to learn new digital skills and show the audience of assembled business leaders what can be achieved when you know how to code. Working through the day within the Bloomberg L.P. building and hosted by Decoded, the Coders’ Corner challenge will be to create a growth app – a new digital tool for business.

Speaking on the day will be Marcus Stuttard, head of AIM and Head of UK Primary Markets at London Stock Exchange, who will appear as part of a panel focused on how to fund the next generation of UK business growth. AIM is London Stock Exchange’s international growth market for small and medium sized enterprises, such as WANdisco, whose founder & CEO David Richards will also be appearing at SUMMIT. The full programme features speakers including Sherry Coutu, non-exec director and the London Stock Exchange and LinkedIn board member, Sir John Sorrell, chair of University of the Arts London, London Design Festival and The Sorrell Foundation, Luke Johnson, co-founder of the Centre for Entrepreneurs, Nicola Mendelsohn, Vice President of Facebook, Henry Dimbleby & John Vincent, co-founders of Leon.

Michael Hayman, co-founder, SUMMIT, said: “This will be an event that puts growth where it needs to be – front and centre of the UK’s economic agenda.

“Bringing together the businesses that have the potential to change the commercial fabric of the nation, it will challenge both the attitudinal and structural barriers facing UK firms with bold ideas and cutting-edge innovation. It will spotlight the technologies and sectors — from big data to the creative industries — in which Britain has the potential to achieve explosive growth.”
