Governance

Classification Frameworks

Governance surrounds index design

Benchmarks and indices have multiple points at which decisions will materially impact data structuring and constituent inclusion/exclusion. Specifically, classification frameworks are critical components in index methodology and governance. We apply our same best practice standards for establishing that apply transparent, rules-driven processes to govern these critical market constructs.

Classification frameworks are managed by asset class, and are managed similarly, but singularly, applying our expertise in governance controls and management, but applying specialized expertise and deep understanding to each.

Our primary classification frameworks include:

  • ICB (Industry Classification Benchmark) – Used for global equity security classification
  • Equity Country Classification – Used for equity security country classification decisions
  • Fixed Income country classification – Used for global fixed income security country classification decisions
