Refinitiv enables greater global shipping fleet data and analytic capabilities through agreement with TonnEdge
New content will drive insights on global fleet pricing for Eikon and Datascope Select clients ahead of IMO 2020 regulations
NEW YORK – Refinitiv has signed a partnership with shipping data and analytics specialist TonnEdge, empowering Eikon and Datascope Select clients with expanded insight into the rhythm of global fleet pricing and market dynamics. The new content is live and available for Eikon and Datascope users.
With the IMO 2020 low sulfur fuel regulations approaching, and the uncertainty of its effects captivating the shipping and commodities markets, access to an analytical framework and robust vessel price data has never been more relevant. TonnEdge Global Fleet Pricing will significantly enhance the ability for shipowners, brokers, charterers, banks, insurance companies and analysts to indicatively value vessels in real time.
“Access to real time vessel pricing and specialist shipping analytics is very much in line with our corporate vision of providing subscribers with timely and reliable data, across the commodity and finance spectrum,” said Leigh Henson, global head of Commodities, Refinitiv. “Shipping currently represents 92% of global trade and underpins most cross-border commodity trade. Combining Eikon’s advanced analytics with the Global Fleet Pricing and shipping specific analytics of TonnEdge will equip our users with best in class commodity tools to navigate through the unchartered waters of 2020, and beyond.”
Richard Stephenson, Chairman of TonnEdge and a Director of Gestion Maritime Group stated: “Data and analytics have come a long way over the past decade, and we have made it our mission to map pricing and analytical techniques more akin to the financial markets, to the shipping markets. The ability to contextualize vessel prices and associated earnings meaningfully reduces the risk of myopic decision-making and poor capital deployment – be it in equity or credit”
TonnEdge (www.tonnedge.com) has built an exclusive dataset of pricing and vessel characteristic offsets, using a combination of market and quantitative inputs to price the global fleet of liquid commercial vessels - capturing real rather than synthetic market moves in a process similar to that of the fixed income and credit markets. TonnEdge has collaborated with Professor Nikos Nomikos, Professor of Shipping Finance and Risk Management at Cass Business School and a group of shipping finance, financial risk and investment management specialists who have mapped many financial market techniques to the shipping pricing and analytics process.
